I was born and raised in Germany and first came to the US as an exchange student in 1995 and returned for college in 1999. I have lived here ever since. In highschool in Vermillion, SD, I hung out with the “artsy” kids and that’s when I learned that there are no limits to one’s creativity. I also got to have a small look into what college life was like and loved the fact that one didn’t have to prove to be talented in art to be able to study art at the university level. When I returned to the US to go to Minnesota State University in Mankato, I immediately signed up for Drawing 101 and took my first ceramics class my first summer.
I have been working in clay since that class. I went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Minnesota State University in ceramic sculpture and a Master of Fine Arts from Washington State University, also in ceramic sculpture. Since then I have worked in my home studio on and off, mostly making pottery.
Recently, I have had the opportunity to focus more time in the studio and it has really brought me so much joy. I really hope that using my pottery will let you experience a similar level of joy.
